Recent Immediate Threat & Medical Complaint Suspensions

Massachusetts Registry News

Massachusetts Police officers recently filed an immediate threat report and medical complaint with the Driver Control Unit of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles in two high profile incidents. Upon receipt of such a report, the RMV may immediately and indefinitely revokes the driver’s license of the person named therein. The standard required for an immediate threat license revocation is that by the person committing a traffic law violation, the RMV has a reason to believe that allowing the person to continue to drive would constitute an immediate threat to public safety.

Writing for the Salem Gazette, Reporter Lisa Guerriero reported that the Salem, Mass. Police field an immediate threat complaint with the RMV when the driver of a 13 ton box truck struck a house on Boston Street. There were no signs of the driver operating under the influence. Police cited him for failure to stay within marked lanes and negligent operation. If he is convicted of negligent operation, Registry will automatically suspend his license for at least 60 days.

In another recent case, Reporter Jeremie Smith reported in the Wrentham Patch that a driver of a Lifeline ambulance passed out while he was behind the wheel and struck a car. Wrentham Police believe that the ambulance driver suffered some type of unknown medical issue which resulted in a loss of consciousness. As a result of the incident, the Medfield Police filed a report with the Medical Affairs Branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles. This report may require the driver to undergo medical screening and a Registry hearing prior to attempting to get his license reinstated.
